Efficient recovery of superhydrophobic wax surfaces on solid wood

چکیده

Abstract Superhydrophobic surface coatings have enormous potential to protect wood from excessive water uptake. Unfortunately, such often require toxic chemicals or complex fabrication methods, and their mechanical stability is very limited. As an alternative, highly water-repellent surfaces with mean contact angles (WCAs) of 160° were prepared by straightforward spray-deposition alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) wax microparticles. While repellency was unaffected static loading a cast iron weight, prolonged rubbing resulted in strong reduction WCA 125° since the spherical microstructure largely destroyed acting shear forces. Thermal treatment degraded at 80 °C led almost full recovery (WCA 155°) repellency. Microscopy thermal analysis revealed that exposure temperatures above melting range subsequent slow cooling enable self-assembly AKD into leaf-shaped microstructures, which are responsible for high observed. It proposed thermally induced self-recovery ability will greatly enhance utility service life AKD-based superhydrophobic make them suitable multiple practical applications.

Pancake bouncing on superhydrophobic surfaces

Engineering surfaces that promote rapid drop detachment1,2 is of importance to a wide range of applications including anti-icing3-5, dropwise condensation6, and self-cleaning7-9. Here we show how superhydrophobic surfaces patterned with lattices of submillimetre-scale posts decorated with nano-textures can generate a counter-intuitive bouncing regime: drops spread on impact and then leave the s...

Preparation of superhydrophobic surfaces on cotton textiles.

Superhydrophobic surfaces were fabricated by the complex coating of silica nanoparticles with functional groups onto cotton textiles to generate a dual-size surface roughness, followed by hydrophobization with stearic acid, 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane or their combination. The wettability and morphology of the as-fabricated surfaces were investigated by contact angle measuremen...

Advanced understanding of stickiness on superhydrophobic surfaces

This study explores how contact angle hysteresis and titling angle relate with stickiness on superhydrophobic surfaces. The result indicates that contact angle hysteresis could not be mentioned as a proper factor to evaluate the surface stickiness. By analyzing the system pinning force of droplet placed on a titled surface, we concluded that both solid fraction and surface geometric factor are ...

Dynamics of sliding drops on superhydrophobic surfaces

– We use a free energy lattice Boltzmann approach to investigate numerically the dynamics of drops moving across superhydrophobic surfaces. The surfaces comprise a regular array of posts small compared to the drop size. For drops suspended on the posts the velocity increases as the number of posts decreases. We show that this is because the velocity is primarily determined by the contact angle ...
